Subject: FOR YOUR APPROVAL: Request for extension - Sri Lanka's NBSAP_PIMS 4860
Importance: High

Dear Adriana,

I recommend we approve this request for extension of PIMS 4860 "National Biodiversity Strategic and Action Plan (NBSAP)” by 7 months until February  28, 2017.  This includes a retroactive extension request for 6 months from August 2016 to January 2017.   This project was due to end in July 2016 after the first extension of 12 months.  The reason for this 2nd and last extension request is that the Cabinet only approved the NBSAP on January 3, 2017 more than 6 months after the expected date of approval.  This meant that publication of the final and signed NBSAP had to be delayed up to now.  To date, the project has expended 92.5% of the $ 200,000 budget, with only $ 15,000 remaining in the budget which can be committed for publishing of the NBSAP in coming week, followed by project closure.

A full motivation is in the attached and below.

Thanks for your kind consideration. Look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Midori

Subject: Request for no-cost extension of Sri Lanka's NBSAP_PIMS 4860

Dear Midori san,

Sri-Lanka CO has approached me requesting for cost extension of the NBSAP (PIMS 4860). They have completed preparation of the NBSAP but the last activity i.e. publication of the document was delayed due to delay in receiving cabinet approval in 2016. The cabinet has approved the publication of document on 3rd January 2017. The project was granted one year extension until July 2016 and had completed all the remaining activities with a budget utilization of 92%.

The remaining budget of USD 15k has been proposed for the publication of NBSAP document.

In light of the justification submitted by the CO, I would like to recommend and request for no-cost extension of the project until end of February 2017. Kindly find attached supporting documents for your review.

Sincere thanks in advance for your consideration.

Best,

Tashi
